Unni was a Levitical musician of David's court, according to the Chronicler. 1 Chronicles 15.18, 20 Urbanus was an associate of Paul who greeted him in the closing paragraphs of his letter to the church at Rome. Romans 16.9 Uriah (1) was a Hittite, an officer of David's army and the first husband of Bathsheba. Learning that Bathsheba, with whom he had had intercourse, was pregnant, David sent for Uriah, supposedly to discover from him news of the campaign against Rabbah. David's attempt to persuade Uriah to sleep with his wife failed, and, though plied by David with drink, he slept on a couch with David's servants. David then sent orders (by Uriah's own hand of U.) to Joab, to arrange his death. Joab sent Uriah to the forefront of the fighting for Rabbah, then withdrew the forces around him, and Uriah fell in the battle. 2 Samuel 11-3,6-26; 23.39; 1 Kings 15.5; 1 Chronicles 11.41 Uriah (2) was a priest whom Ahaz commanded to erect a copy of an altar seen by the king in Damascus. 2 Kings 16.10-16; Isaiah 8.2 Uriah (3) was an assistant of Nehemiah on the occasion of his public reading from the book of the law. Nehemiah 8.4 Uriah (4) was a son of Shemaiah, a prophet from Kiriath-jearim. Jehoiakim pursued Uriah, who fled to Egypt, but was extradited and executed with the sword. Nehemiah 11.22 Uzzi (2) was a priest, an assistant of Nehemiah in his dedication of the rebuilt wall of Jerusalem. Exodus 6.18; Numbers 3.19; 1 Chronicles 6.2, 18; 23.12, 20 Uzziel (2) was a Levite, a descendant of Jeduthun and assistant of Hezekiah in his cleansing of the temple, according to the Chronicler. 2 Chronicles 29.14 Uzziel (3) was the son of Harhaiah, a goldsmith and assistant of Eliashib and Nehemiah in rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem.
